The Continuing Education Cell (CEC)
The Continuing Education Cell (CEC) of Government Polytechnic College Kalamassery is a training and development unit established to promote lifelong learning, skill development, and employability among students, professionals, and unemployed youth.
The CEC functions as a sub-centre under the Centre for Continuing Education, Kerala (CCEK) and works under the guidance of the Principal and a designated faculty coordinator. The cell aims to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry requirements by offering short-term training programmes, skill development courses, and professional up-skilling opportunities.
The major objectives of the CEC include:
- Providing need-based training to unemployed youth to enhance their employability.
- Offering full-time and part-time courses for students, industry personnel, and small business owners.
- Upgrading technical and managerial skills required in industry and small-scale enterprises.
- Promoting entrepreneurship by training individuals to start small businesses using locally available resources.
- Conducting vocational and competency-based programmes aligned with emerging job opportunities.
Through these activities, the Continuing Education Cell contributes to skill development, technology up gradation, and community outreach, thereby supporting the mission of the institution to serve society and industry.
The revenue generated through the Continuing Education Cell (CEC) plays an important role in supporting the academic and infrastructural development of the college. The funds collected from training programs, short-term courses, and certification programs are utilized for various institutional improvement activities.
How CEC Revenue Helps in the Development of the College
- Infrastructure Development: A portion of the revenue is used for improving laboratories, classrooms, and training facilities. This helps the institution maintain modern infrastructure that supports effective teaching and learning.
- Purchase of Equipment and Learning Resources: Funds are used to procure new laboratory equipment, tools, software, and other learning materials required for conducting training programs and academic activities.
- Skill Development Programs: The revenue supports organizing additional skill-oriented training, workshops, and certification courses for students and faculty, thereby enhancing technical competencies.
- Student Support and Training Activities: CEC funds help in conducting value-added programs, industry-oriented training, and placement preparation activities that improve students’ employability.
- Maintenance and Upgradation of Facilities: The generated income also contributes to the maintenance and modernization of existing facilities, ensuring that the college remains updated with technological advancements.
- Institution–Industry Interaction: Funds are used to invite industry experts, conduct seminars, and organize technical events, which strengthen industry–institute collaboration.
Thus, the revenue generated through the Continuing Education Cell is reinvested in the institution to enhance infrastructure, training facilities, skill development initiatives, and overall academic quality, ultimately benefiting both students and the college community.
